Freewriting is a practice of writing down whatever is on your mind, like brainstorming. the free writing is usually handwritten not typed. I used this strategy in my GED classrooms years ago to get students starting to write. There were no rules or focus. It was just a time to write whatever came to mind. Usually a topic would come up in these freewriting times that could be used as a topic for writing a GED essay.
Once a while I use use free writing combined with pacing now. Usually I try to write from a prompt or topic I set for myself that day. I set my alarm for 15 to 20 minutes. (At the beginning of this practice I could only do 10). For these 4 Free Write Fridays, I won‘t have a topic. I can tell you that Im a little reticent to share my unscripte, unedited writing Because I don’t ever know if my writing will make sense (because of aphasia) or even able to be read ( because of dysgraphia). but this is good for me. Live on the edge of your comfort zone…So here’s what it looked like today.
HiCheryl,
I did something similar for a while. The process was called "Morning Pages". The writing was to stimulate creativity. They were not meant to be read or used for anything other than getting the clutter out of your head and make way for the creative thoughts.
I must have some perception problems because I read your title and thought "FREE WINE FRIDAY". That should be interesting.
Are we having fun yet? 😜
