July 9 - getting a boost (Part 3)

I apologize that it has taken me this long to get to the decision in the blog. After much thought and research, I was still uncertain.

I made two appointments at CVS for the booster and cancelled them. What was it going to take to finally make up my mind ?

Science wasn’t helping; there doesn’t seem like there is much science right now about the booster. As one of my readers wrote yesterday, nobody is coming right out and saying that the boosters are absolutely safe and necessary at this time. They just keep saying who is eligible.

I guess it all came down to emotions this time (which is not normally the way I approach decisions)

My daughter had to decide to give her daughter the first series of Covid vaccine now when she became eligible or wait. She didn’t make this decision lightly. Last Friday she had the appointment for the first shot and I decided to get my booster in solidarity.

For about 5 hours I regretted the decision to have the 2nd booster after all. I had some symptoms after the initial two doses, the typical ones most people experienced with the Moderna shot, nausea, slight headache and tiredness; and with the 1st booster I had the same.

I chose to take the Pfizer to increase the effectiveness as some doctors of my research suggested. All people I knew who had the Pfizer for their primary shots had few, if no symptoms.

But I apparently was one of lucky people who experience some neurological issue. It started with a migraine. I have had these in the past so that didn't concern me. But when I experienced a heaviness under my eye and has tingling in my lips I became a bit concerned. I went to the bathroom periodically to make sure that I could smile without a droop.

I went to lie down and made sure I had my cell phone in case I needed to call 911. About 5 hours later it left me suddenly. I was truly the lucky one.

I don't want to discourage anyone from getting a vaccination of any kind. There are risks (and rewards) in most things we do. I mostly just want people to be aware.

Remember I am a person who had a stroke after a routine surgery. there is a 1 to 2 % chance of that occurring. And people may think I'm crazy, I know my sister does. I would encourage my friends and family to undergo a surgical procedure if they need one. After all, forewarned is forewarned. Maybe more on that some other time.

Until next time.....

I am not an anti-vaxer by any means. When it was made available, I was certainly not an early adopter. In fact, my wife and best friend got their first shot long before I did. Eventually, I got bot shots. To date, however, I have not received a booster shot. With a trip to Disney World planned, I think I might get the booster.

Hubby and I had Pfizer for all three shots and we didn't have any side effects. I'm glad I everything worked out for you.
