this is a speech I gave in my Education and Resource group this week. I thought this was a bucket list item. My husband told me that’s more of a goal. Oh well….isn’t aphasia wonderful?
“One thing on my bucket list right now is to complete the Ultimate blog challenge for November. I have tried several times before this and haven’t been able to complete the whole 30 days. I think this month will be different.
since my stroke in 2019, I have been working hard to overcome my challenges with both aphasia and apraxia of speech. Right after the stroke couldn’t speak or even make a sound. I could write a few words and could read a little bit. With time, a lot of Help from my speech therapists and a lot of practice, I have gotten better at reading, writing and speaking. i want to be able to share my story of the stroke and recovery. As part of my therapy to improve my writing ability, I have created a blog.
the ultimate blog challenge asks bloggers to post a blog every day for a month. It is also a community that asks you to comment on other blogs every day. This is quite a challenge for me with aphasia. I still have so many words in my head and they don‘t out easily. I also have a lot of trouble spelling especially getting the first sound Figured out. Spell check helps sometimes but most often I need to use a different word than I wantEd to. But that’s ok, it’s part of the writing process and my recovery. For the past two months, I have been able to tweet everyday. I have found that these short focused messages work for me and I will use what Ive learned to write only as much as I’m able and not be as judgmental about my writing. I think I’m ready. “
I’ll check back in on December 1 and give you an update.
