Word of the Year 2022

For the past year, I’ve been focusing on one word JOY! That was my word of the year for 2021. As I reviewed the year’s activities and events, I can truly tell you that I found joy. Lots of JOY!

  • I found joy in writing this blog.

  • I found it in the Hay House Writers community.

  • I found it in the apartment my husband and I rented in VA. (Thank you, Marc, and Joy who rented the apartment to us.)

  • I found it in spending time with my family, especially with my daughter and granddaughter and my sister.

  • I found it when we went back to Sunday Mass even though Covid is still present and I was fearful.

  • I found it when I finally heard my “normal” voice (thank you, Lucia).

  • I found it through spending time with others who experience Aphasia. (Thank you, BU Aphasia Center groups, Twitter and FB groups).

  • I found it with the Brain Exchange pen pal program. (Thank you, Joyce, Sara and especially Tina)

  • I found it working with a phenomenal psychologist who gave me strategies to use to deal with depression and anxiety.

I have found joy in SO many things this past year!

As 2021 was coming to a close, I did the same things as I did the year before. I really considered what my word of the year would be for 2022. I reviewed what I’ve been doing, what progress I was making in my life and in my recovery after stroke, and I prayed about it. I asked these questions: What do I want more of? What things do I want to do more of? What things do I want less of?

After careful consideration, my Word of the Year 2022 is INTENTIONAL.

With this word in mind, I will make plans for the new year. I will not say yes to all things that come my way. I will be more purposeful and intentional in the way I spend my time.

My hope is that this word will guide my actions and activities. Last year I said yes to things that would bring Joy to my life and those things did. When I’m being intentional this year, my goal is to be healthier, happier, more spiritual and on the road to becoming my best self.
